The Mandometer® Clinics

Mando is Latin for ”I eat”. There are five Mandometer® Clinics in three countries; Sweden, the USA and Australia. These clinics have treated over 800 patients to remission. All of our patients are followed for five years to be sure that they have made a full and complete recovery. The first clinic was started in 1993 and is situated in Novum’s Research Park in Huddinge beside the Karolinska University Hospital.

Here at the Mandometer® Clinic in Novum, more than 100 patients are treated every year and it is our largest outpatient clinic. The inpatient portion of that facility has 12 beds. There is also outpatient care for patients who may be living near the clinic, and there is day care for those who live in our patient hotel or in the patient apartments next to the clinic. The patient hotel allows you to you have your own room and bathroom that you may share with a parent or relative, while sharing a kitchen and dining room with other patients and their relatives. It is also possible to live in a two-room apartment as an outpatient. We have nine two-room apartments next to the clinic in Flemingsberg’s centre.

At the Mandometer® Clinic in Novum, 50 caregivers are engaged in clinical treatment for our patients. They are dieticians, behavioral scientists, nurses, assistant nurses and physicians. All those who work with the treatment here have gone through the Mando Academy to learn how to treat eating disorders. The personnel also receive certification in the Mandometer® Method. Here, basic research and clinic care are integrated and patients and relatives have the ability to discuss their insights into the disorder with scientists and listen to professional researchers and clinicians lecture on this topic. Patients who have gone into remission are followed-up for five years in 11 follow-up meetings, typically with the same care provider and about 90% of those in remission come to the majority of the follow-up appointments.

The Mandometer® Clinics have the same calming look all over the world. They are characterized by Scandinavian design with simple birch-wood, organic shapes and clear, natural colours. The paintings of several Swedish and European artists adorn the walls of the clinics. One artist has made paintings after conversations with patients about what they wish to see on the walls. At every Mandometer® Clinic there are eating areas, kitchens, warming rooms, rooms for interactions with other patients, study rooms and activity rooms, examination rooms and offices.
